This summer was a blast! I would do it again in a heartbeat. If anyone is considering a career in research or any scientific field, I would highly recommend doing SURF. It's a unique experience where you learn really valuable stuff while having fun with other college students in beautiful Blacksburg, VA!

-- Greg Rodden, senior, human nutrition, foods, & exercise

"The SURF program was one of the best experiences of my undergraduate career.  It was extremely valuable, giving me a unique insight into regenerative medicine while providing me with mentorship from a talented researcher at the forefront of the field. I got the chance to explore and investigate complex topics and ideas.  My experiences were invaluable and will be ones I carry with me throughout my research career."

-- Daniel Inman, senior, biological systems engineering

"I studied the effects of elevation on growth rates in a number of different coldwater stream fishes and how it impacts their populations. This data is important given the continually growing climate change problem that we are facing. SURF was a great oppurtunity to network with current grad students and professors and really figure out what it takes to be a sucessful graduate student in the future. The seminars were very informative and useful in helping me decide that graduate school was the path for me"

-- John Woodward, senior, fisheries science

"As a rising sophomore, the idea of my first ever undergraduate research experience was very daunting. Now, looking back, I am so glad I applied and had the opportunity to participate in the SURF program. It enabled me to step quite a distance out of my comfort zone (I was previously scared of insects but I ended up working in an Entomology lab for the summer), and I met a multitude of fun, friendly, and influential people, many of which I am still in contact with to this very day."
