Synopsis:

Dr. McGlothlin studies how natural selection shapes the evolution of complex biological traits and the physiological mechanisms that underlie them.

Description:

Dr. McGlothlin’s research program takes a variety of approaches to understand the evolution of complex biological traits, specifically phenotypes, including toxin resistance. He is interested in how natural selection shapes integrated groups of traits, as well as the genetic and physiological mechanisms that underlie such trait groups. His research agenda seeks to tackle evolutionary questions using both empirical and theoretical approaches. In addition, his research works to incorporate ideas and techniques from diverse fields, including evolutionary and quantitative genetics, behavioral ecology, and physiology.

In addition to his faculty appointment in biological sciences, Dr. McGlothlin is a faculty member in the Global Change Center at Virginia Tech.
